This skills programme will prepare you to operate effectively as an employee, equipping you with the essential foundational ability needed to learn other skills. It will enable you to adapt to modern working practices and provide you with core skills needed for work, learning and life. It is a great support programme for apprentices and interns.
The course has both Knowledge and Practical Skills components, and a Final Integrated Summative Assessment (FISA).
Knowledge Topics (11 Days)
  • The workplace environment and responsibilities of an employer and employee.
  • The employment relationship.
  • The organisation of work, how tasks are organised and distributed.
  • Concepts related to the employee's performance of work.
  • Forms of employer organisations.
  • External environments in which organisations operate.
  • Employer-Employee relationships.
  • Workplace health and safety.
  • Understand and apply work ethics, norms and values.
  • Ethics at work.
  • Effective communication.
  • Current trends influencing work.

Practical Skills Topics (12 Days within workplace)
  • Understanding workplace environments and the responsibilities of an employer and employee.
  • Apply for a career opportunity.
  • Prepare and undertake an interview.
  • Analyse an employment contract.
  • Analyse a workplace policy and guideline.
  • The workplace environment and responsibilities of an employer and employee.
  • Apply and accept an internship at a Workplace Experience provider.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Occupational Health and Safety legislation in the workplace.
  • Induction at a Workplace Experience provider, covering general workplace policies, procedures and standards.
  • Observe and undertake general task/s within the Workplace (Rate the Workplace Experience Provider).
  • Understand and apply work ethics, norms and values.
  • Work as a team member.
  • Participate in and contribute to workplace meetings.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe and productive Work Environment.

Final Integrated Summative Assessment (FISA) : 2 Days
  • Identify responsibilities in the workplace environment of an employer and employee.
  • Understand and apply work ethics, norms and values.
  • Identify safety and legal provisions relating to the work and responsibilities of an employer and employee.
  • Perform tasks in a number of critical workplace competencies.
